What exactly do I mean when I say not all resistance bands are equal? Resistance bands are made with various resistance levels to suit the needs of the user depending on his or her fitness level. Yet what is the same of resistance bands is their use and functionality that one gets when using them. A lot of people who work out at gyms seem to miss the intention these bands bring to ones workout especially when people are there to lift weights.

But if one were to try a resistance band workout they would soon discover the versatility the bands bring and their place in anyone’s workout. Workouts with the bands feel completely different than with weights. With free weights the resistance is usually one way – do a bicep curl the resistance is on the upward movement, but when you work with bands, the tension is constant so you get the upward and downward movement of the exercise. It works similar to cable machines although resistance bands take up less space and are less expensive to machines. Bands travel easier. If your gym doesn’t supply them bring your own in or if you are away on business or on vacation, bands are easy to pack in suitcases.

It is important to note that you may find yourself buying one or more resistance levels. Unlike weights where you know how much you want to lift, with bands it’s a matter of how much tension you want to comfortably work with. Another great benefit of the bands is that when you use them you can have more options on directions of use. You can easily go from a bicep curl to an overhead tricep curl in one fluid motion.
